I flushed $5k down the toilet, in 2016.
Back then, I was building funnels for clients but wasn’t getting the pay I wanted.
That’s when I stumbled upon a post from a business coach that felt like it was speaking directly to me, addressing the very challenges I was facing.
I immediately checked his profile.
And what do I see?
Screenshots upon screenshots.
Each one raved about how people’s lives had transformed after this coaching.
I got super excited and shot this high-ticket coach a DM.
The next day, I was on a Zoom call with him.
He kicked things off by asking the usual questions about my business struggles.
But within 10 minutes, I found myself opening up about my family and rocky relationship with my brother.
I don’t remember exactly what he said.
But he made me feel validated.
For the first time, it felt like someone truly got me.
At that moment I pulled out my credit card and signed up for his $5k coaching.
Man, he was GOOD at closing.
But here’s the kicker: the coaching was a total waste of my $5k.
Why?
He kept pushing me to run FB ads to a video sales letter.
But I’m an organic marketing guy who prefers written content.
That’s how I found him in the first place.
But organic marketing turned out to be just a small part of his client attraction strategy.
So, I got frustrated, took zero action, and felt like I flushed my $5k down the toilet.
I’m sure he was frustrated too, unable to get results for a client after putting in so much time.
So I didn’t ask for a refund, given his time investment.
But the worst part is…
All this mess could’ve been avoided if he’d just been transparent about his methods.
Had he mentioned his method was about ads and video sales letters, I’d never have signed up.
Instead, his marketing was all about the “Hell” and “Heaven” scenarios.
I don’t know where these gurus get the idea to keep their methods a secret, but it’s nonsense.
People do care about how you’re going to get the results, especially if they’re high-ticket buyers.
Maybe focusing on pain and pleasure is okay for selling low-ticket items.
But for more serious investments, you risk attracting the wrong clients.
Also, clients deserve to know what they’re investing in.
So if you are here to make money while helping people, make sure you’re transparent about your methods in your marketing.
P.S. If any guru advises you not to talk about your methods in your content, run the other way.
